DOES ANYONE
happen to know why Hindemith wrote Kleine Kammermusik for Wind Quintet Op. 24 No. 2?!?!?!?!? And/or know the circumstances surrounding this composition’s genesis?
Our chamber music coach told us to find this information, which he apparently found somewhere but he won’t tell us where. I have scoured the internet, and I just looked through all of my library’s books on Hindemith - not one mention of WHYYYYY this piece was written.
This is a desperate plea, tumblr. A desperate plea.

It was written for the Frankfurt Chamber Winds Society and was premiered at a 1922 festival in Köln. The driving idea behind the Kammermusik series was a return to Bach-style chamber instrumentation. That’s all I got. :)
